Default Executive Officer/First Officer

Good luck in this, can't wait for the first episode.

I have a question however...

You list both Locke and Plummer as the Executive Officers of the Montana....obviously it should be Locke as he outranks Plummer. The position of First Officer and Executive Officer are the same.

Having served in the US Navy myself, I have to agree with this. The XO is the first officer on a ship. Now I know Gene Roddenberry played rather loose with rank designations on the original series, so will the Continuing Mission follow in those footsteps?

Thanks and good luck!

Morgan

Yes that is a thing that sticks in my mind as well. Unless they are in different divisions of the ship. though I never heard of this type of breakdown.

Now, if I put on my thinking cap...

Could be that Star fleet command decided that the command group should have a back up officer since in the setting of this concept the Klingon are not nice and have a tendency to attack alot as in the TOS.

Or that captain Edwards is in actuality an admiral and the commander is the actual captain of the ship and the Montana is a flagship of a battle group that is not mobilized at this time.

Just guessing mind you, take nothing I say as having real worth. I just like to make up the details to string an idea along.

It's all more complicated than that. And simpler.

Wheels in wheels. Riddles in riddles. You're asking EXACTLY the questions you need to be asking!!

Well now you have me thinking and that ain't good since I have an issue 3 of a comic due to my editor.

Now that I re-looked at the crew bios and keeping in mind complicated, but simple.

and remembering that gene did indeed play it kinda loose with rank (having a captain of engineering)

pretending I'm commander star fleet;(big lead in huh?)

Cmdr Locke needs a chance to show he can take orders and follow them. he's a black sheep of the fleet right now and cardassians are not people to seen as being weak. if he can rise to the position then he shows he can be a hard warrior if needed. something that would also moderatly impress the klingons and keep them from just attempting to run him down.

Lt.Cmdr Plummer is a known quantity. He's run a ship, granted a small one. But since alreadt showed he can manage a compliment of personel that is bigger than a starship. good chance he could run a big ship. He will rise to the position if needed and will likley be eager to do so.

he also acts as a incentive for Locke. Do well or that guy takes your job. From other stories and shows star fleet holds a grudge on officers that don't perform as directed. fleet has a nasty habit of piling on the pressure to break a officer and force a resignation. Unless they do well then they will ease up. but impressing star fleet is very difficult.

I know I am over thinking but it is rather fun to think all this out.

Episode 2 is when the Locke/Plummer issues get tackled for the first time. Let the conjecture continue! That's the nugget of the day!

Welcome aboard lalverson!

I can't believe we have to wait until 2008 for more adventures, but it will be well worth it I can assure you of that. As those last 3-4 minutes of the show hint at things are about to go into high warp for the crew of the Montana.

And I hope everyone will join us for the Trek. Oh, the puns, the puns.

-Stephen
